Articles related to the website itself.

This website came into being as a result of the Baildon Urban Village initiative in 2005. The Baildon Urban Village Action Plan produced by Baildon Futures Partnership was published in December 2004. Within Theme 6 of the plan - Strengthening Local Communities one of the actions was Establish and maintain village website. During the consultation period of the initiative several areas had been identified that would be able to benefit from there being a village website. I got involved during the  Initiative and got the site up and running under the control of the Baildon Community Council. I have been looking after the domain registration, hosting, managing and editing of the site since then.

Soon after this the Baildon Community Council finally achieved one of the things they had been working towards for a long time - getting a local council formed. Soon after Baildon Parish Council was formed the Community Council disbanded. They had done many years of good work in being a channel of communication between Baildon Residents and Bradford Council.

For a while this site hosted the email for Baildon Parish Council until they got their own under baildonparishcouncil.gov.uk. I also worked a lot on the Parish Council website. The Parish Council decided not to take on this site and also decided that their site would be more official and not have the potential for conflict that may come with open discussion forums. At that time the village site had a forum where people were free to contribute. The site no longer hosts a discussion forum, that could change, but social media now seems to serve that purpose.

The purpose of the website it to try an pull together Baildon related things and provide a resource for the community.

Feel free to use the Contact form for anything related to the site.

Jan 2018

After a long absence I have now worked on the website a bit.

There is a lot of updating that could be done but one of the things that has fallen behind is the planning application map and its associated list. I had not entered a planning application into the system since 2014. A couple of planning applications had sparked interest in Baildon residents recently so I thought I would update the map.

The original maps system was written to display pointers on the map for specific things in Baildon. E.g. Eat and Drink. This then lent itself to a system that was used by the Baildon local council planning review committee. The data for this was organised by review month. It is no longer used in the review meetings so I have re-organised the data and entered quite a few recent applications.

You can read about how to use the maps in this article - Maps/Planning Applications.

The planning application map can be found here:- Map
