Free Cavity Wall Insulation Print E-mail
Written by Paul Marfell

Bradford Council and Npower are seeking to assist local households to save on their energy bills and keep warmer. The Community Warmth Scheme will be visiting 170,000 home owners and private rented homes over the next 2 and half years across the whole Bradford district.

Bradford Council has ensured that the Community Warmth Scheme will provide FREE cavity wall insulation measures to all residents living in their own homes or renting from a private landlord where technically possible*. In addition, FREE loft insulation will be provided for households with residents aged 60 or over in suitable private sector homes*.

The Community Warmth scheme also offers a FREE home energy survey by a qualified surveyor and will also signpost to several partner services. You do not have to be an Npower customer to qualify for this scheme and you may benefit from some of the other services on offer.

With no insulation, nearly half of the energy you are billed for can be lost through the walls and roof of your home. We can help you prevent this waste and the corresponding expense, both now and in the future.

Installation will be carried out by Community Warmth’s specialist team of local contractors; using quality approved materials and will usually be completed in less than a day.

If you receive cavity wall insulation, this comes with a 25-year Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) guarantee certificate (please see the CIGA website for more details).

The surveyor will also ask if you require further advice on:

  • Benefit entitlement checks
  • Help and advice regarding fuel payment problems
  • Smoke detectors fitted by the West Yorkshire fire and Rescue Service if none are present.
  • Business advice and support on working for yourself
  • Generating your own energy and other green issues such as water conservation advice
  • External and internal wall insulation
  • Handyman service
  • Heating

If you indicate that you require any of the above further information, the Community Warmth Team will refer you to partner agencies for follow up advice and support.

In all instances, surveyors working for Community Warmth will have the following:

  • A security ID badge
  • Community Warmth badged clothing
  • Carry a Bradford City Council security check letter (to be referred to as a Letter of Authentication) with a unique security code for your property.

All other agencies contacting you will identify themselves as part of the scheme, have security ID passes and will communicate with you by letter.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this scheme, please telephone the Community Warmth freephone number 0800 694 0418
