Baildon Village Centre will be affected by major road
works during the summer holiday period.
As of early August the work is on Browgate with the traffic controlled by lights. This causes tail-backs that fill the roundabout. When coming from high Baildon it may be best to to go via Pennithorn and Jenny Lane.
Sunday 3 Aug - the timing of the lights is wrong. This has been reported to United Utilities who will get someone to sort them out.
Essential works to replace gas mains and improve the local gas network
will be taking place in Baildon village centre this summer. The work
will start during the week beginning July 7 and last for approximately
eight weeks.
The work will run in phases, starting at the junction of Jenny Lane with
Moorgate on July 7, and running down Moorgate, Northgate, across the
roundabout and finishing on Browgate. As the work proceeds, stretches of
this route will become "one lane only", and traffic will be managed with
temporary traffic lights to enable traffic to move in both directions.
The route for Baildon Carnival on July 12, and the Harley Davison rally
at August Bank Holiday will be protected, and every attempt will be made
to ensure these events go ahead with minimum disruption. The works have
been planned in consultation with the Police and Highways Authority. The
school summer holidays were chosen as the best time, both to make the
most of daylight hours and to minimise the impact on traffic during peak
rush hours. Every attempt will be made to minimise disruption, both for
those whose gas supply is affected, and road users, but some delay to
traffic is likely.
We are aware that residents in Bingley, Eldwick, Gilstead, Burley, and
Menston regularly use Baildon as a route into Bradford and beyond during
peak commuter hours. For this reason, we are circulating this
information as widely as possible, so that motorists can plan their
routes accordingly over the summer period.
The work will be managed by Northern Gas Networks, the gas distribution
company for Northern England, and their partner company United
Utilities. A customer liaison officer, Eileen Carr will be on site on a
regular basis to deal with issues for the public. You can also contact
the United Utilities Customer Services Team on 0845 634 0522. Motorists
will be kept informed by signage on key routes at the entrance to the
village. Regular updates will be available on the "Baildon Village
Website" (www.baildon.org.uk), the Northern Gas Networks website
(www.northerngasnetworks.co.uk), in local newspapers and in Baildon library.
If you would like further information, please do not contact our office,
please contact the Customer Services Team on the number above.
