Civic Christmas Display
For the next couple of years, Baildon Parish Council has agreed to take on responsibility for the civic Christmas display in Baildon in partnership with Baildon In Bloom, with a view to taking on complete responsibility in years to come. The Parish Council and In Bloom Committee will liase with Bradford Council to decorate Baildon during the festive season.

A brief history of Baildon’s current Christmas display…
Baildon Christmas Partnership used to voluntarily organise Baildon’s display, using donations from local businesses, residents and churches. In 2006 the Partnership was incorporated into Baildon In Bloom.
Though Bradford Council connects the lights and provides a cherry-picker to install the main and small trees, it is paid for by money from sources in Baildon. Bradford Council does not have a remit to provide Christmas decorations in Baildon.
In 2005, Baildon Futures Partnership, the body set up to spend the £75K of Urban Village money, purchased a new set of lights (a large set and star for the main tree, a large set for another large tree and twelve small sets for small trees on shop-fronts). In 2005 and 2006, the main tree and any miniature trees were paid for using this money. Bradford Council now stores the new lights and star for use in Baildon.
Miniature trees were erected on shop fronts that already had holders and some new holders were installed. However, problems with electricity supply and the amount of labour needed to install all of the trees and new holders has, so far, limited progress with the miniature trees.
In 2007, Baildon Parish Council contributed £2000 to help improve the display. This looks set to continue in 2008 and beyond until the display is of a better standard.
