Bradford Metropolitan District Council
Cllr John Cole (Liberal Democrat; Baildon), Cllr Roger L'Amie (Conservative; Baildon), Cllr Val Townend (Conservative; Baildon), Cllr Hawarun Hussain (Green; Shipley), Cllr Martin Love (Green; Shipley) and Cllr Kevin Warnes (Green; Shipley) are all supporters of the campaign.
Cllr Towend initiated the works at Towngate car park, to have the trees and shrubbery pruned and thinned. We are now working with the Council to have this area replanted with an appropriate scheme, to complement other improvements in the surrounding area.
Cllr Cole is President of Baildon Horticultural Society.
Baildon's cemetry, Anglican churchyards, planters, parks, grass verges, hedges, woods, war memorials and playgrounds are the reposnsibility of the Shipley Area Parks & Landscape Service. We have worked closely with Malcolm Wright, the Manager of this service, on a number of projects. He is our main contact within the Council. This Service is within the Department of Culture, Tourism & Sport.
Most of Baildon's small parks and gardens, shrubberies, rose-beds and the bedding scheme in the Village Centre, as well as street cleansing, are the responsibility of Street Scene. We look foward to working with this new service. We are currently investigating possible improvements and sponsorship opportunities on a number of sites maintained by Street Scene. This service is in the Department of Environment & Neighbourhoods.
Community work, local grants, neighbourhood forums and liason work are organised in partnership with Shipley Area Coordinator's Office. Jane Hughes (Assistant Area Co-ordinator) is responsible for Baildon Neigbourhood Forums. In the past we have worked with Chris Flecknoe (Area Co-ordinator), Ali Mantle (Assistant Area Co-ordinator) and Dave Horsman (Neighbourhood Development Officer). This office is also part of the Department for Environment & Neighbourhoods. We are pleased to have been involved with the recent Shipley Area Eco Action Day, which was a great success and very informative.
The campaign received £2000 from Baildon Futures Partnership, which was given to the Shipley Area Parks & Landscape Service to spend on six new planters: four in Northgate and two on Coach Road. We have received a grant of £1000 from Shipley Area Committee's Communities-in-Bloom fund, which has been spent on a hanging basket project for the Village Centre and Coach Road. A further £100 was donated to Baildon In Bloom via an awards scheme for local volunteers, which was hosted by Shipley Area Committee and organised by Shipley Area Co-ordinator's Office. This was used for a variety of small projects and for general administrative costs.
