Work started early December on the £600,000 repair of the aqueduct. British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience caused. Dowley Gap Aqueduct tow path The aqueduct that carries the Leeds Liverpool Canal over the river Aire at Dowley Gap near Bingley is to be repaired. Scaffolding will need to be erected for the work to take place. The towpath will be closed until Friday, February 26th.
The site is also home to the protected White Letter Hairstreak butterfly that lays its eggs in several elm trees in the area. Consideration in the way the work is to be carried out is being given to the butterflies and the bats that nest in parts of the aqueduct. |
