Music for babies and toddlers Print E-mail
Written by Lynne O'Malley

From January 2008 Rhythm Time will be running music classes for babies and toddlers with their parents/carers at the Methodist Church Centre. The classes will run on a Thursday morning, babies at 9.30 and toddlers at 10.10.

Did you know that music stimulates every part of your child's brain, helping to develop their growth in a number of ways? These include speech development, balance and coordination, social skills, fine motor skills and self-awareness.

Not only that, but music is a natural mood-enhancer, spreading endorphins through the body, helping them and you to relax and have fun.

Rhythm Time classes are run by Lynne O'Malley, an experienced primary school teacher and musician. A typical class includes singing, dancing, rhymes, exercise, relaxation, and moving expressively to music. We use additional resources such as hoops and balls, as well as good quality percussion instruments.

Lynne is holding a free taster session at the centre on Thursday 6th December. If you would like to come along to see what Rhythm Time is all about, please call Lynne on 07789 895894.

Private Messages Print E-mail
Written by Paul Marfell

I have now installed a Private Messaging function to the website. Those people who are registered and logged in will see a new Messages option in the user menu on the left.

This will allow registered people to send private messages to other registered users.

I have decided to introduce this funtionality to help people get in touch with each other. I will use a recent situation to explain how it could help.

  • Jessica Morgan has recently posted to the Discussion Board about a new planning application for the the reservoir on West Lan, Baildon. I believe that there are several people who are active in fighting such planning applications. Unfortunately, with using just the Discussion Board, it is impossible for anyone to respond to this so that they can meet without putting contact details on the website that are visible to others. However, with the Private Messaging system, it is possible for a registered user to send a Private Message to the original poster. Ideally they would also add to the Discussion Board something like "I have sent you a Message". This will alert the original user to the fact that they have a message and also let others know that things are developing further.

The system is simple to use and each person can make changes to some of the settings available.

Please use it wisely and in response to items on the site. The system is not intended to replace either the Discussion Board or your email system; I have therefore put limits on the number of messages a person is able to keep.
