Shipley ATC welcomes new CO Print E-mail
Written by Paul Marfell
2458 Shipley & Baildon Squadron of the Air Training Corps is very pleased to welcome its new Commanding Officer.

Flying Officer Eileen Dibb RAFVR(T) joins the Squadron after having served at 2168 (Yeadon) Squadron. After a brief handover from the out-going Officer Commanding Flight Lieutenant Deb Southwell, Flying Officer Dibb has quickly taken the reins of the Squadron and started to make her mark. She comes with a wealth of experience and with the drive and enthusiasm to make a good Squadron Commander.

Eileen has been involved in the Air Training Corps for 8 years after her son joined 2168 (Yeadon) Squadron. Having been encouraged to join the Squadron staff as a civilian instructor by the Officer Commanding 2168 Squadron Flight Lieutenant Mark Britain, she later took a RAFVR(T) commission serving as Squadron Adjutant for 2168 Squadron.

Flying Officer Dibb has always been an asset for 2168 Squadron, however with true Shipley-Yeadon 'rivalry', Yeadon's loss is our gain. Although Shipley and Yeadon have had a healthy competitive nature between the two Squadrons, with the leadership of Fg. Off. Dibb we hope that both Squadrons will be able to work closer together in a joint effort to provide valuable training skills and enjoyable activities.

Flight Lieutenant Deb Southwell was given a good send off by the Squadron on the 28 March 2008. Deb was presented with a Squadron Shield from the Staff and Cadets, a wooden Paddle bearing the Air Training Corps crest signed by all members of the Squadron and a Crystal decanter and glass set from the cadets. The night also marked the last night of Flt Lt Bob Southwell but unfortunately he had work commitments.

As Flight Lieutenant Southwell handed over the Squadron to the Flying Officer Dibb she told the Squadron, "I want you all to show Flying Officer Dibb the same support that you have given me over the years".

Anyone interested in joining the Air Cadets at Shipley and Baildon can contact our recruitment team on 01274 530099 on Monday and Friday nights between 7-9.30pm or visit our website www.2458atc.co.uk for more details
