BAILDON CHILDREN HIT THE HIGH NOTES at the 33rd Baildon Music Festival, Young People’s Competition last Saturday 3rd March held at Baildon Methodist Church.
Aged from 7 to 17, they played or sung in age / instrument related classes with their performances being adjudicated by Mrs Alison Pryce-Jones. All class winners were presented with a medal and a chance to be selected to play in the “winners” concert on the Tuesday evening. The concert is always well received by the audience of mostly friends and family.
A full range of trophies are available and this year 22 were presented at the end of the concert by Rev. Andy Bowerman. The concert comprised of all the trophy winners, most of the class winners and additional guest performances from those who played or sung very well in the competition but did not quite win their class. Other quests at the concert included the Salt Grammar School Orchestra and Glenaire Primary School Choir, who due to no fault of the school found themselves without a conductor and withdrawn from the concert with only 24 hours to go. Luckily Audrey Glover, who is the Festival’s official accompanist, stepped in as soon as she heard, to conduct and accompany them and the children did take part in the concert.
The festival organisers would like to thank all the children, parents and teachers who made the festival so enjoyable and we hope to see them all again, plus a few new faces, at next year’s festival which starts with the competition on Saturday 1st March 2008. (The event has been added to the Calendar. More details will be added nearer the time.)
The winners of the trophies were as follows:-
