News Roundup
Updated 2nd December 2008Arrests of NoteNPT officers received a call that a suspect vehicle had made off from the scene of a burglary on Saturday morning the 29th of November at approximately 0300hrs. Due to good planning and local knowledge officers intercepted the vehicle on Roundwood Rd, Baildon and after a search of the vehicle, found it to contain an amount of stolen goods from the recent address it had made good its escape. Two suspects were arrested at the scene and further subsequent enquiries found another suspect to be involved and was also arrested They were detained in the cells for further enquiries into other incidents in the area, and further enquiries are ongoing This was an excellent example of co?ordinated policing and it was no coincidence that the officers were at the right place and at the right time, resulting in curtailing at least three offenders from re?offending in the near future. Vehicle Crime PC Dave Bale, Airedale and North Bradford Crime Reduction Officer says; 'Don't make it easy for a thief.' 'It takes only a few seconds to take personal valuables out of your car. Never leave a car door unlocked or a window or sunroof open, even at a filling station or outside a shop. Never leave credit cards or cheque books in the glove compartment and don't leave the vehicle documents in the car. On the lead up to the festive season, especially, nothing of any value should be left on display inside the car. Even a coat or bag might tempt a thief to believe that it contains something of value. Lock anything of value in the boot or better still remove it completely from the vehicle. Satellite navigation System harnesses should not be left attached to the windscreen as this advertises the fact that there may be a Sat Nav within the vehicle, and don't forget to wipe the suction marks off the windscreen. Security mark your stereo and take it with you if it is removable. Make a note of the serial number and keep it in a safe place. If possible, consider etching the Vehicle Registration Mark on the windows.' Following our own observations of anti ? social behaviour (ASB) in the Baildon area in addition to complaints from residents to the Shipley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), local officers have directed their efforts towards identifying the offenders and resolving the issues. As a result of the excellent work of PC James Preston and his colleagues, twenty local youths now have been identified. These youths have been advised, some in the presence of their parents in an effort to nip this in the bud, and ASB warning letters have now been issued. The situation will now be monitored in the hope that it will desist. If it does not, the Police in conjunction with Bradford Council will take the next steps in obtaining ASB Orders against those individuals who continue to act in an anti?social manner. Acting Inspector Andrew Croasdale of the Shipley NPT said " Anti?social behaviour is one of the top priorities of the Shipley NPT. This is because people tell us it is one of the things that bothers them most. We want people to feel safe, not just in their homes but within their neighbourhoods at all times of day. My message to the residents is that we are listening and taking action to make your street safer. Please continue to help us help you, by passing on information. To the parents in the area I appeal to you to work with us, be responsible, play your part and ensure you know what your child is doing and who they are with, particularly on Friday and Saturdays nights when anti ? social behaviour is at it`s peak. We don`t want to criminalise young people unnecessarily but if they do not heed our warnings that may be the result. " Anyone found guilty of breaching anti?social behaviour orders can be imprisoned in the most serious cases for up to 5 years. Update 04.11.0819 local youths have received warning letters in the presence of parents following police investigations regarding complaints of antisocial behaviour in the Baildon area. 6 of these youths received final warning letters Baildon NPT officers based at Shipley Police station require the help of local people by reporting incidents of antisocial behaviour where they are occurring. Added 04.11.08Over the last week Shipley NPT has been conducting extra patrols across the area in an effort to encourage householders to take basic crime prevention measures to protect their homes as the nights draw closer. Approximately 1500 homes have now been visited and given advice ranging from cutting back shrubbery to making effective use of lighting to disguise that the house may be empty. Approximately 150 timers and 1500 low energy bulbs have also been given out free of charge. Acting Inspector Andrew Croasdale said 'I wish to reassure the community that our aim over the last week was to invest time in preventing you from becoming a victim. Crime levels are low but the more we can do to maintain that or even reduce it is time well spent. I would appeal to everyone to take 10 minutes to look at their own property, be objective and think what they could do to increase their security and reduce the chance of becoming a victim." Burglary Team
New Burglary Team LaunchedThe merger between Bradford North and Keighley Divisions has been reviewed after 3 months and consultation with the public and staff has now been considered. The Police at Airedale and North Bradford realise that is very distressing to become the victim of house burglary as it is a particularly invasive crime. Over the past five years police operations have cut burglary offences in the Bradford District by over 30% but recently they have started to rise again. In response to reassure the communities in the Bradford District, 35 Police Officers at Airedale and North Bradford are forming a Burglary team from the 14th July which will provide 7 day a week cover dedicated to reducing house burglary and to focus on catching and convicting active burglars. The Police can only succeed however with the co?operation of the public. House holders are urged to ensure their houses are left secure and that valuable items are not left on display, especially car keys overnight. The Police also need the publics support in providing information about who is committing offences of burglary, reporting any burglaries they see happening and who is receiving the stolen property. DI Peter Craig who is leading the Burglary initiative states that this team will ensure that 'it is the burglars who will fear having their houses searched by Police and receiving custodial sentences, rather than house holders having to suffer this type of crime. We need the publics assistance to take security measures to prevent burglaries occurring and to provide information so that together we can 'Beat the Burglar'. Any information can be provided by contacting your local NPT officer or Airedale and North Bradford burglary team on 0845 6060606 or by contacting crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.
