Zephyr Security Consiltants - 2009/03/26 20:09 We recently had a cold call on the doorstep by Zephyr Security Consultants. They failed at the first point by not leaving as soon as we said we were not interested in their product. They then insisted that they were in the area working, in some way, with West Yorkshire Police. They made a great show of displaying the id card that included the logo of West Yorkshire Police. They then did their best to tell us that our doors were not secure because of the type of locks we had.

Since their visit I have looked at their website where again they are trying to convey a feeling of insecurity. Their website contains headlines from newspapers but the links to more details do not work.

Their tactics, that we experienced, are designed to make people feel uncomfortable so that they want to buy their product.

My recommendation, and that of our neighbourhood watch co-ordinator, is to talk to the Crime Prevention Officer if you are concerned about security. You can then put together a proper plan to improve security instead of just concentrating on a particular aspect that suits the people knocking on the door at the time.

Do not be scared in to spending money, talk to the Crime Prevention Officer. For Baildon this is Adrian Foyston 01274 474777

Cold calling in warm weather - 2009/06/26 15:46 Is it surprising that cold calling has a bad name? One of our responses is that we do not do business with doorstep callers but this does not seem to register with many. Today we had a someone from "Aquaseal" who was prepared to walk away when I said I was not interested but what I did not know at the time was that he had left his drink can tucked behind one of our flower pots by the front door. Why could he not ask if we had a recycle bin for his can? If someone has one of their leaflets please post here so we know which company can't tidy up after even the simplest of jobs.
