Baildon Village Discussion Board

Paul Marfell

Baildon Community Centre - 2007/12/07 23:46 The great news is that Baildon is to get a new Community Centre and there are currently two possible sites for it. Unfortunately it is not going to be an additional Community Centre. The Baildon Link will be demolished.

The two sites are
  • Site of Ferniehirst School
  • Opposite end of the park to the current Baildon Link

I currently go to the Baildon Link on Cliffe Avenue for the Baildon Community Council meetings, Baildon Parish Council meetings and Baildon Parish Council Planning Committee meetings. I attend the Neighbourhood Forum meetings that are held in the Link but I also attend the neighbourhood forum meetings at the Ian Clough Hall, Sandal's Primary School, St Hugh's and Hoyle Court.

With the demolition of the Link the Parish Council will have to look for new premises. The Parish Council serves the whole of Baildon and the Councillors live in each of the six wards. For that reason a central location for the premises used by the Parish Council seems sensible and for my purposes building the new centre on the end of the park on Cliffe Avenue would be ideal. Whenever possible I try to walk to the meetings and living on Plantation Way means that Cliffe Avenue is only 10 minutes walk away for me.

At some stage the Parish Council will be looking for office space for the clerk who currently works from home. Perhaps the interior of the new building could be designed to provide that space? This could be used as a contact point and the notice board used for Parish Council notices.

I personally would like to see the Parish Council working towards holding paperless meetings. To this end several Councillors use their laptops at the meetings. Having access to a laptop, projector and screen might help both the public and Councillors during these meetings. A new building would hopefully have these features built-in.

Paul Marfell.
Parish Councillor for Baildon East Ward.
