Baildon Village Discussion Board

Walker/Trees - 2006/12/22 15:35 I have been researching my family history for quite some time and a large part of it involves families who lived in Baildon.

My 5 x great grandfathers were James Trees and Michael Walker. James Trees was invoved with Baildon Mill between 1835 and 1841 and Michael Walker was found dead in a beck in 1847.

My mother seems to think there is a connection between the Holmes/Trees/Nutt and Walker families.

I would be very grateful for any information on these families also the name of a book about Baildon that was written pre 1950.

I am also related through another side of my family to Madame Sarah Parker who lived at Oxenhope House.

I hope someone can help you with your genealogy search.

John La Page is recognised as having written the authoritive history of Baildon in 1951. Have a look at the related BaildonWiki where there is a link to Amazon for the book. Unfortunately they have none, but they might be able to let you know when one becomes available.

Re:Walker/Trees - 2007/04/29 20:19 John Le Page's book is in Baildon Libraray - there are several copies.
I have done quite a lot of work on the Walker family history. There were several Holmes/Walker marriages. I have traced my family (which includes Michael) back to John Walker of Crooks Farm. He had 3 sons - John, Thomas and Nicholas, and a daughter, Ann. John, and his son and grandson had Hope Farm. Michael (B 1782)son of Nicholas. He married Ann Laycock and farmed at Baildon Hall. He also had a son Michael, born 1820. Nicholas and his family had the Malt Shovel for many years.
There are lots of walker graves in Baildon churchyard, but they do take a bit of untangling as they had a tendency to use the same Christian names. Basically if you come across a John, Thomas, William,Nicholas Jonathan, Ann, hannah or Grace, they are likely to be members of the extended family. I know of at least two other Walker families still in the Baildon, Shipley, Bingleyarea.
